Hefty Skid Plate
from Central Coast, CA
Comments about MSR Hard Parts MSR Skid Plate:
I got this skidplate after a rock knocked a hole in my right crankcase cover during a dual-sport ride on a rocky road. I had the hole welded shut and took the money I saved and got this skidplate. The plate is sturdy 1/8 inch aluminum. It provides excellent protection for the bike, covering the entire underside of the crankcase as well as protecting the sides of the crankcase with "wings" that are contoured to wrap around the front of the bike's left and right crankcase covers.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Boaught it for a 2002 KTM EXC250. The plate fits perfectly. It covers the whole bottom of the engine and some of the sides, therefore, it appears to provide good protection for the cranckcase. The skid was relatively easy to install although it requires some manuvering to connect all 4 brackets/

good product for rocky conditions, easy to install, much better protection than stock. I will give a better review after a few hundred miles of riding.
Must have for trail riding
from Stillwater, NY
I purchased this skid plate because i needed some engine protection while riding the brutal trails on New York. It fits well, and protects the engine, but installation was a bit of a hassle. I'm no mechanic, but, I know how torque a bolt in a clamp. The hardware consists of hooks to attach to the frame, and bolts which require a star wrench. I'm not a fan of star wrenches because I find it difficult to tighten these bolts while laying under the bike without stripping heads. Needless to say they are slightly stripped, but it seems secure. Bottom line, it fits well and protects as it should, but be weary of stripping the bolt heads!
