    Great stuff

Comments about K&N Replacement Air Filter:

I use K&N Filters in all my vehicles. They work great and are far more cost effective than paper filters. Clean them every two years instead of replacing every year and one cleaning kit does multiple cleanings.

    It's a K&N in a Connie 14

Comments about K&N Replacement Air Filter:

I've been using K&N filters on bikes and cars for years. Seems that the only things quicker to start a debate in our world is comments on Oil and Tires....

So let's go with the objective stuff first.
I have yet to have any kind of fitment issue with a K&N. The filter slipped right into the slot in the airbox behind the ram air intakes with a nice tight fit that gave me reasurance that air would not be bypassing the filter. The filter is designed with a raised rib of rubber around the outside edge that compresses against the inside edge of the airbox. The OEM filter does this with a band of 1/8" thick grey foam. From the feel of it, I'd say that the rubber rib will probably be a bettter seal overall. The K&N also matches the OEM pry tab on the left side of the filter for removal later. One thing to keep in mind is that K&N includes a tube of edge sealing grease as well to make a tight seal that you run a bead of around the raised rib. I'm not sure if thats a belt and suspenders type thing, but I'd bet in this application it isn't needed. But I like suspenders...

The downsides to K&N's are the price and the maintenance. I personnally don't think either is exorbitant. In fact, in this application, considering the size and the odd-ish trapizoidanl shape & the edge molding I think it's pretty well priced. Especially considering that here it was just less than double the cost of a disposable paper filter from Wally-World according to a quick search. So 3 papers would be more than the K&N and the K&N cleaning kit that will get you 3 uses easily.

Like any other part of a bike, it needs to be maintaind properly. If used right, these can be cleaned and re-used many times while still providing excellent filtration and high air flow. Yes they rely on the oil for their filtration capabilities. Yes you have to clean them & then re-oil them periodically. And yes, you have to do it the way the manufacturer says. But seeing as how most people probably will only need to do it every couple of years, and can do it during winter maintenance, I really don't see that as a big deal.

These are well made filters that are designed to work well with your machine. Even if you don't add things like fuel controllers or exhausts to make use of the increased air flow, they still offer better filtration when maintaind right.

I put this in a high end machine. I don't mind taking my time and properly servicing the air filter. Fiddeling with the body panels to do it however is another story....
