Comments about AFX FX-39 Solid Dual Sport Motorcycle Helmet:
There aren't many reasonable cost DS helmets. This one is good with some flaws. Chin strap is a foot too long, cam lock buckle is industrial strength and the helmet comes without a manual. Hard to determine what the warranty period is. There are absolutely no instructions on how to change the shield and the replacement tinted I bought doesn't have any either. If you contact AFX they won't respond and their website is useless. Unscrew the side pieces completely from the helmet before attempting to install the shield and transfer the small plastic washers from the old shield to the new off the helmet. The new shield doesn't include any washers. There's no way the shield could be quickly changed while riding. The shield also hits the top vents when fully open and will chip the paint if any color other than black.

I use this product for everyday use, commuting and off-roading. I get great peripheral vision out of it which is needed off-road and commuting. Everything about this product is great from the vents, looks, durability, chin strap, and inside guts/padding. The only reason I did not rate it 5 stars is the visor. It needs to be 1 inch longer to block the sun more. But every DS helmet has this issue I have found. Great product for the price.

Have been using it now for the past couple weeks. The helmet is quite nice; very comfortable and good quality; I use it mainly for commuting (paved road)...had to make some alterations to make it a bit more road worthy though...they are:1) drilled a hole in the back end of the peak to enable it to dip more forward to block the sun better...without that I found it VERY difficult to block the sun especially with the visor up.2) put black tape on the bottom of the visor so when I'm riding with it up (most of the time) it blocks out the sun from the sides...does not affect use when its fully down. I have done this on my other helmets as well.I did not check out other DS style helmets so the issue with the peak/visor is probably the same across the board. If your looking for a quality DS helmet without spending big $ I would suggest this.

Had it not been for the wife, I wouldn't worry about helmets while atv riding. I wanted a decent looking helmet with a face shield at a decent price.
