You put a lot of time and money into your motorcycle, so having it get stolen can be world shattering. The only real way to keep your motorcycle safe is a simple motorcycle lock. And ranging from $20 to $200, motorcycle security companies such as Abus give you a plethora of options to make sure that you never walk out to find that someone has made off with your pride and joy.

But not all motorcycle locks and chains are created equal. Abus is a German security company that has been protecting homes, cars and motorcycles for years. Earlier this month, they released their 2013 Abus motorcycle locks, updated from last year's technology to give your motorcycle the best protection possible. Abus continues to study the new and evolving ways that thieves are utilizing to make sure to update all of their locks and alarms to thwart even the most lock and alarm savvy thief. Here's a quick rundown of the new 2013 Abus motorcycle locks:

Abus Combiloop 205

Just because you're on a budget doesn't mean that you should leave your motorcycle unprotected. The most inexpensive of the new 2013 Abus motorcycle locks is the Abus Combiloop 205. Made of 5mm strong steel cable, this lock can be entwined in your motorcycle's wheel or connect your motorcycle to a stationary object. It's 200sm long and has 4 digit individual settable code lock. Priced at just over $20, the Abus Combiloop 205 is the perfect entry level motorcycle and scooter lock.

Abus Combiflex Pro

Want something a little more discreet? The Abus Combiflex Pro is the same entry level motorcycle security that also features a 4 digit, individual settable code. It's came, however, is only 90cm's long and automatically rolls up into the slightly larger casing. This lock allows you to loop the steel cable through your wheel or rotor to keep thieves from rolling it away while you're gone. Plus, the Abus Combiflex Pro is also priced just over $20.

Abus Element 285 & 290 Disc Lock

The next step up in motorcycle protection for the 2013 Abus motorcycle locks is the Abus Element 285 & 290 Disc Lock. This motorcycle disk lock uses a 5mm or 9.5mm hardened steel locking bolt that locks on to your motorcycle or scooter's disc to keep it from being moved. Instead of a 4 digit code, the Abus Element Disc Lock uses a key locking device that is designed with the Abus premium cylinder that protects against lock picking and other lock manipulations. The lock comes with two keys, a key with a convenient LED light for unlocking your bike in low light conditions and a spare. The Abus Element Disck Lock also comes with a memory cable that can be used to remind you that the lock is in place to prevent you from trying to ride off with it still locked, though it's bright yellow casing should also help remind you as well as any thieves that your bike is being protected. For either just over $25 or just over $30, this motorcycle and scooter lock is a great deal for motorcycle protection.

Abus Expedition Chain Lock

Want the heaviest form of protection? The Abus Expedition Chain Lock is made of specially hardened 6mm square chain that is incredibly hard to break or cut through. Plus the chain is encased in a fabric sleeve to protect against scratches or paint damage. The lock is a key lock that has is specifically designed to be resistant to corrosion. This Abus motorcycle lock comes with two keys in case you lose one. For just above $35, the Abus Expedition Chain Lock is a heavy duty motorcycle lock on a budget.

Abus Trigger Alpha 335 & 340 Disc Lock

In the midrange protection level, the Abus Trigger Alpha 335 & 340 Disc Lock has all of the features with as the Abus Element Disc Lock such as the 5mm or 9.5mm hardened steel locking bolt, Abus premium cylinder for lock manipulation and 2 keys, one with a LED light. This disc lock, however, is almost completely made of the hardened steel, making it even harder to break or tamper with. The extra protection makes the Abus Trigger Alpha just under $45 for the 335 or just under $50 for the 340 Disc Lock.

Abus Steel-O-Chain 880 Chain Lock

Still prefer the weight and security of a chain? The Abus Steel-O-Chain 880 Chain Lock is the next step uo in chain motorcycle locks from the 2013 Abus motorcycle locks line. This lock bumps up the chain to hardened 7mm square links and has a thicker black, textile sleeve. This is also a key tyoe lock that comes with two keys, all for just under $50.

Abus Trigger 330 Disc Lock

For the 2013 Abus Motorcycle Locks line, the next step up in disc lock protection is the Abus Trigger 330 Disc Lock. With a 9.5mm steel bolt and constructed almost completely with the hardened steel, the biggest perk of this Abus lock is how easy it is to use. Its key lock has a diagonally implemented cylinder, which gives you the maximum amount of space to turn the key and lock it into place. The Abus Trigger 330 Disc Lock is a decent price range at just under $60.

Abus Trigger Alarm 345 & 350 Disc Lock

Sometimes just locking your motorcycle into place isn't enough. You want the world to know if someone is even just trying to mess with it. That's where motorcycle lock alarms come in handy. With their new 2013 Abus motorcycle lock line, the Abus Trigger Alarm 345 & 350 Disc Lock is the most inexpensive of the disc alarms. But don't let the price fool you, this disc lock gives you all the same protection with its 5mm or 9.5mm steel bolt, hardened steel construction and premium cylinder for protection against manipulation. However, if it senses that anyone is trying to move or tamper with the bike or the lock, the alarm goes off. This entry level alarm starts at just over $60 and even includes AAA batteries.

The next step up in chain locks for the Abus lock review is the Abus Steel-O-Chain Iven 8210 Chain Lock. With 8mm square chain links, this chain is almost impossible to cut or break through. But the biggest change in quality is the new, functional, long life and highly flexible mesh sleeve that encases the chain to keep your pain safe. Plus, it also upgrades the lack casing with an ergonomic lock body cover with SCT soft case technology, making it extremely impact resistant. The Abus Iven 8210 Chain Lock is a key lock and it includes two keys. If you're going to go with a chain lock, I would highly recommend this one at a price just over $80.

Abus Steel-O-Chain Ivy 9100 Chain Lock

The Abus Iven 8210 still not enough? Try the Abus Steel-O-Chain Iby 9100 Chain Lock. Starting at just over $100, this chain lock is intense. It features a 10mm square chain along with the flexible, mech casing. The actual lock is also almost completely made of specialized hardened steel and the key is a bit more user friendly since it's actually reversible!

Abus Granit Sledg 77 Web Disc Lock

If you prefer heavy duty but want a disc lock, the Abus Granit Sleg 77 Web Disc Lock has a serious 13mm steel locking bolt. Plus, not only is almost the entire locking mechanism and casing made of hardened steel, it also has a webbed layer of soft plastic that both looks cool and protects your bike from scratches. At just over $155, this is the coolest looking of the 2013 Abus motorcycle locks and it's one of the strangest disc locks on the market. It doesn't, however, have an alarm.

Abus Detecto 7000 RS1 Lock

The Abus Detecto 7000 RS1 Lock does have an alarm. The locking bolt is smaller at 5mm, but it has an alarm that is based on the Abus 3D detection system. If anyone even just looks at your motorcycle the wrong way, this disc lock will send out 100dB to alert you or the rest of the world. This motorcycle alarm also features a multi colored LED and acoustic sound system that alerts you of battery life, alarm status and activation. And yes, for just over $125, it does also come with AAA batteries.

Abus Granit Detecto X-Plus 8000 Alarm Disc Lock

But if you want to cream of the crop when it comes to disc locks, get the Abus Granit Detecto X-Plus 8000 Alarm Disc Lock. This is the most high end of the 2013 Abus motorcycle locks featuring a 14mm special hardened lock bolt and an alarm of at least 100dB that works off of the Abus 3D detection system. Plus, the entire thing is made of special hardened steel and the keyhole even has multiple covers to protect against corrosion or dirt. With a subtle silver color, it's also very discreet. Abus Granit Detecto X-Plus 8077 Alarm Disc Lock

There's also the Abus Granit Detecto X-Plus 8077 Alarm Disc Lock, which has a 13mm bolt instead but has the same great alarm system and hardened steel protection but has a very aggressive look and will probably just scare off potential thieves on looks appearance alone. It also is just over $160.

Abus Granit City X-Plus 1060 Chain Lock

The Abus Granit City X-Plus 1060 Chain Lock is the best of the best when it comes to chain locks. With a 10mm hexagonal chain and an Abus Power Cell technology lock, no one is getting past this lock. And while it may be super heavy-duty, this motorcycle lock also has the textile chain cover to prevent from scratching as well as a keyhole cover to prevent against dirt or corrosion. Starting at just over $215, the Abus Granit City X-Plus 1060 Chain lock comes in two sizes, 55 inches or 66 inches.
