Monster Energy Supercross - Race 4, Oakland, CA
In a series where consistency can make or break a rider, none of the top competitors have shown any at all. Four main events so far and each with a difference winner. This weekend, the Monster Energy AMA Supercorss went to Oakland, CA with Ryan Dungey barely in the lead over Chad Reed and Ryan Villopoto. The heat race wins were given to Dungey and Stewart though Villopoto gave Stewart a definite run for his money.
In the main event, it was Reed who came out with a strong start followed by Andrew Short with Stewart and Villopoto in fourth and fifth. Dungey, the current point leader, was practically no where to be seen in tenth place out of the gate.
It didn't take long for Short to drop back to fourth while Stewart stepped it up to second and Villopoto took over third. The three battled it out until Stewart overtook Reed for first in the first corner around lap 12. Villopoto stuck to third while Short held fourth and Dungey managed to climb up to fifth place just before passing Short. In the final laps, the top five in the race maintained a comfortable lineup allowing Stewart to take his first win of the season while Reed took second, Villopoto stayed in third to finish off the podium and Dungey just managed to overtake Short for fourth and fifth place, respectively.
While Reed was unable to keep the lead in the end of the race, his overall point standings after taking one win earlier in the season along with the second place points from this weekend puts him in first in the overall standings with Dungey in second but tied in points.
