I purchased hot cams as seen on your add for my drz 400sm. I got one exhaust cam would this work alone or do i have to get an intake cam as well.

Hot Cam Stage 2 for 2001 XR650R description specifies use with "stock" valve springs. Under specs (configurations) it mentions to use with Hot Cams spring kit. Is this a recommendation or should I also be upgrading valve springs?

Thank you for your question. The Hot Cams Stage 2 Kit does not require upgrading the valve springs in most cases. Research shows the kit required for the 2001 Honda XR650R uses stock springs and rockers.
