    Is the Valve shim tool needed for an 83 Yamaha XJ750?

    • A:

      yes, this is the tool in the manual. Use a socket on the crankshaft to rotate the motor so the cam pushes the bucket down. Install this tool then rotate the cam AWAY from the tool to access the shim. There are other methods but for $15 or whatever, just go for it.
      Be careful to NOT jam the cam against this tool once its bolted in place, you'll damage the cam at best, rip a chunk out of your top end casting at worst.
