Comments about Firstgear Silverstone Motorcycle Saddlebags:

I bought these for my 2009 DR650 SE. They go on the Turbo City Denali rack. They fasten/connect OK and they are pretty darn durable (three pavement crashes and 2 dirt crashes later). ON road or OFF...I can fit plenty of stuff in them (4-5 days of "light weight" packing worth of gear and tools) They have been dragged on pavement at 45 mph, covered in mud, dirt, rain, snow, etc. They are relatively easy to repair (I melted through one from pavement burn 3rd run around) They are very visible with reflective piping and seem to be pretty good at repelling rain. The covers seem to be a little large so they flap at high speeds but other wise OK. Your better off to "plastic bag" all gear in the Silvertone bags for safe water tight assurance. I would say they look a little dorky but, they do work and they are reasonably priced considering the amount of gear that they can hold which is about 2100 cubic inches per bag fully expanded.
All in all not bad for an all around saddle bag.

Comments about Firstgear Silverstone Motorcycle Saddlebags:

      Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Installed on a 2008 KLR650. Does not restrict seating for 1 or 2-up riding.

If you are looking for a soft saddlebag option with the space of the smaller metal pannier cases the Firstgear Silverstone Saddlebag set is definitely an option to consider.

The price is good. A comparable saddlebag with less space can run around $160. My previous bags had 20 liters per side and were full. With the Silverstone's 40 liters per side, all the same gear fit with some room to spare. The expansion section is very helpful to nudge in that extra item with ease.

The main velcro straps are easy to adjust. The over the top straps are great to cinch up the bags to keep cargo from shifting. The carrying handles are excellent and made of durable sure-grip type handles that make it nice to carry into a hotel or wherever you need. Zippers are very high quality and zipper tabs seem to be firm; time will test this out. The outer zippered pocket is convenient as well as the inside zippered pocket in one bag, velcroed pocket in the other and a set of inside clip straps to stabilize a bulky item you may store in the bag. When you open the bag the light inside color makes it easy to see your items.

The inner sides of the bags have heat resistant pads to protect momentary touches of hot pipes. I'm using side racks, so I dont have to be concerned about pipe burns.

The bags also have Scotchlite reflective piping for night time riding.

The only downside that I experienced is the anchoring / attachment of the bottom of the bags. There are bungees for this section that go under but my bike will not allow a pass through to attach the bungees properly. There are attachment loops on these bags that you can use to anchor it down with something else, like I did. I modified a strapping system without damaging the bags. There should be some kind of a clip-strap option for added anchoring.

I have not tested the rain covers yet, but can update this review after testing this feature.

I am considering the Silverstone tail Bag (46 liters) in the future also, it has more space than my current 40 liter tail bag.

Silverstone Saddlebags are a great investment, well made product, easy installation, easy access to your packed gear. Recommended.

          two questions

How many does one get for $134, and are they waterproor? I see they have a coating, but it doesn't say anywhere about whether it is waterproofed.

Thanks for your question! With the Firstgear Silverstone Saddlebags that your looking at you would get a quantity of two when you order these, they will also be waterproof that is correct.
