Nice Quality Waterproof Boot
from Northern VA
Comments about Gaerne G-Class Boots:
I needed a good quality waterproof boot for my daily commute and chose this boot after looking through various reviews on a number of websites I frequent. The height is just a little higher than I like and the top has some sort of elastic inside the leather to bring it up against your shin. The feel of the leather and their waterproof material against my upper leg bothers me a little, but nothing that a longer sock wouldn't fix.I wear loose fitting jeans under a Roadcrafter one piece suit and the boots work well with that configuration. I can pull the leg of my jeans over the boot and they look good. I don't think I would want to wear them for walking around all day, but for an hour or so of walking they do fine. They could use a better insole if you need to wear them longer. The major problem that I noticed was that the plastic zippers on the inside of each boot was stiff and didn't always want to open and close without having to work with them. I first tried rubbing a pencil lead against each zipper and that made it a little better, but still not great. A bit of candle wax rubbed against the outside of each zipper while the zipper was closed did the trick and they are much smoother now.As delivered the size is good - I wear a 10.5 US and ordered the 11. My feet fit well without swimming in the boots. Overall quality looks good although there was a piece of the trimming from the waterproof lining material that was in the bottom of my left boot. Check the footbed if you notice the fit a little strange in one or the other of the boots. The other modification I made was to cover the outside of the boot with an additional waterproofing wax (Pecard's Leather Cream) after applying a bit of black polish to some areas on the toe I scuffed. The boots are a little dull out of the box but the wax gave them a nice shine.I have not had a chance to judge how waterproof they are yet, but the manner of construction leaves no exposed seams and the zippers are well protected under the velcro flaps on each inner side of the boot.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
