Comments about GMAX GM54S Modular Snowmobile Helmet:

This is the 3rd modular helmet from GMAX that I have purchased. We use these when we go quadding and after my family saw my first one, they begged for ones of their own.

The inner Sun Visor is one of the greatest features. As we are travelling the trails, it so easy to reach up with a gloved hand to slide the Sun Visor up or down as needed.

The extra 'curtains' between helmet and face (one for over nose and one for chin) will be real nice for Winter rides. I live in Arizona though so these were easily removable for our needs.

The Arizona rides can get real dusty and real hot, but we are able regulate the vents to help tremendously with that.

We also do a lot of night riding and usually I am leading the group. Everybody behind me is thankful for the blinking LED light on the back of the helmet since many times the trail will drop my ATV tail lights below their view, but the higher light on the helmet can still be seen.

We also hunt a lot of Geochaches at night which means hiking off the trail a ways. What we do is set the GMAX's on the ATV racks with the LED light on Steady, facing the direction of our hike. Makes it easy to find our way back to the ATVs after finding the Geochaches.

I have had my first helmet for over a year now, and I just now had to change the batteries for the LED light. The circuitry for the LEDs must be well designed for the batteries to last so long.

The modular aspect is really nice too. Being able to raise the front of the helmet with a single gloved hand so I can easily take my glasses on or off to read the GPS is a godsend. Its also handy for quick discussion with other riders when we come to a fork in a trail.

As for fit, these helmet tend to size a little small. So if your measurements come close to a size cut-off, go with the larger size.

And that brings me to the only slight con for these helmets. They are not the most comfortable helmet I have ever worn. Its not bad in that regard, just not the best. Given the choice of wearing these helmets or a slightly more comfortable one, I and my family always choose the GMAX Modulars due to the Sun Visor, LED Light and Vent options. Our rides are usually all day or even all weekend events, so that says its not that big an issue.

We also use Scala Rider G4 intercoms on these helmets. They fit into them great, with the built in speakers pockets making it easy. We do put spongey foam beimd the speaker pockets though to push the speakers a little closer to our ears.

On my helmet we also have attached a Replay XD 1080 camera. The curved 3M Sticky mount for the camera fits these helemts great. Also, we do so much night riding I have attached a second Replay mount that works perfect to hold a Stinger LED Flashight as well. So there is a Scala G4 attachment on left side of the helmet and two Replay mounts on the right(one above the other) one holding the camera and one holding the flashlight. With all those accessories the front face still goes up and down without clearence issues.

We really like these helmets and will probably end up buying even more.
