      So, after many moons of deliberation, I finally opted to purchase the set of these tires for my 1993 BMW R100R. For those of you who know that bike, it's not the fastest, it's not the best handling, but it's dang reliable and always gets the look from the right people with a good eye.

      After I flipped 50k miles on my 3 set of metlzers, I thought that I'd try something on my bike to make use of the fire roads in the area. I was looking for a good 90/10 on/off road tire. I'm not looking to do big jumps or anything like that- I just wanted a little bit more stability on gravel/dirt roads while riding moderately.

      This tire (for my bike) requires tubes, which as I've been told, knocks the speed rating down one full letter. Totally fine since my bike does even go the speed in THAT rating. ;-)

      I've had them on for about 100k miles now, and I've noticed a few things.
      1) my gas mileage has gone down a couple mpg. So, instead of 48 on the highway, I'm getting 43. (boo hoo)

      2) these tires are LOUD. I swear, the first few times I got on the highway with them on my bike, I kept looking around for that jeep which was clearly WAY too close to me by the sound of its over-sized tires. seriously. each time I figured out that it was just me, I had to chuckle at myself and just get on with gettin on.

      3) now, my bike calls for a stock 100/90-18 on the front. The only way I could fit one of these bad boys on my bike was by playing with the numbers, and getting something as close to that as possible. I wound up with a 130/80-18 on the front, which isn't quite as tall of a tire as the 110/90-18 I normally ride with (yes, there's a 10mm difference between what I originally wrote and now). My experience with the slightly shorter tires was a little concerning at first. the bike felt less stable for about a week of very short rides. I was almost hesitant to get on the highway with it at all, but eventually did it. As it turns out, what I was interpreting as "unstable" was merely the fact that the bike really wanted to dive into turns- due to the faster turning speed of the front tire. Once i'd kinda put two and two together, all was well and I headed for the twisties near Mt. Tam.

      4) I like the aggressive look of the tire, and for the few little dirt roads I've cruised up and down around here- a vast improvement over my Metzler ME series.

      5) the wear on the tires seems to be pretty good so far- not much at all even for a fat bike like mine after 1k miles in the heat of a california summer.

      all in all- sure- they're decent tires considering that i put them on a bike they weren't intended for. I do think that i'll be adding a little more oil to the gearbox to help keep the heat down a little more, but outside of that- I'd recommend them just for the price alone if you are considering doing what I have now done.

      The Best Road Oriented Tire Out There for a KLR

      During the winter I run knobbies on my KLR650 for desert riding and in the summer I run road biased 90/10 dual sport tires. I spooned on a set of Shinko 705's last summer before a 3000+ mile from SoCal to Pike's Peak and back. I couldn't have been happier. They track beautifully on the highway without following grooves, they stick nicely in the twisties even at crazy lean angles while fully loaded for touring. Even when I've pushed them to far and they do start to loose grip, it's predictable and they'll gather themselves back up with little drama.

      During my trip I camped well off the highway in the desert, riding a half mile or so each night off road to my camp site. They gripped surprisingly well in the dirt while fully loaded. They're not a knobby and I wouldn't expect to go hill climbing or run any sand washes with them but they did very well in the dirt considering the kind of tread they have, even on some single track. They were excellent on dirt roads.

      Even now, as I'm burning off the last usable bits of my rear tire, I can go canyon blasting and they'll allow me to push way harder in the corners than a 400lb+ Plow-asaki should be able to do! I run between 32-35 psi on the road and air them down to about ~22 psi for the dirt. I've got 9000 miles on this set and my rear is ready to go while my front tire still has approximately 40-50% life left. I would have gotten more out of the rear but they were squared off pretty bad from all the interstate miles during my Colorado trip.

      By far, my favorite tire for my KLR.

      At about 2000 miles tire tread blocks started to seperate from the core of the tire both front and rear rear first then front running both at manufacturers psi, I ride a R100Gs and weigh 160 lbs

      Very good value if you don't mind changin tires. Expect to get between 5k and 6k miles which is low but the tire was only [$] so it cost less per mile than Mich, Dun or Metz have for me. Good dirt road & mud traction - mediocre hwy traction

        I have a Ural sidecar rig. The tire size I'm interested in is 110/80-19 which is designated as a front tire. I would like to use this size tire for my rear drive wheel on my rig. I am wanting to do this to have a smaller wheel diameter than stock to up the engine RPM at highway speeds. I have read that the Urals use two different size wheels. 18 and 19 inchs wheels. The 18 inch is able to go faster than the 19" due to higher engine rpm. Mine is 19 inch and can barely hold 55 mph. I only want 60.Can you tell me if using the front as a rear would be okay or not.Thank you for your help.

          Thank you for your question. It is not recommended to use a front tire on a rear tire application. The shape is completely different and can affect handling. In this case your bike is equipped with a side car, so the shape may not be as crucial. One thing to consider is, will the front tires have the load index to handle the weight of your Rig? Are parts readily available for the bike, it would be easier to replace a sprocket than a wheel.
