Comments about Avon AV71 Cobra Motorcycle Tire:

After riding two sets of the OE Metzler 880's for 14000 miles on my 2012 Yamaha Raider, I decided that I wanted to try something different. Seeing that there aren't many manufacturers that make the 210/40r18's, I didn't have much to work with.

After reading many pages in forums and blogs, I decided to go with the 240/40r18 Avon AV72 in the rear and the 120/70r21 Avon AV71 up front. At first, I was skeptical, seeing the different sizes and not knowing much about going smaller or larger on a stock rim, but I kept running into forum members saying that the 240 will fit without a hitch.

After looking around two, I finally found a mechanic that would throw a 240 on the rim. I guess for insurance purposes, others wouldn't do it.

I must admit, THIS WAS THE BEST DECISION I HAVE MADE YET! With the radial in the rear and bias ply up front, I have not had an issue with the forks wobbling over bad bumps or potted roads as I had experienced for the past 14000 miles! The rear down right STICKS to the ground, even when I was riding through rain with less than a mile on the tires (silicon sealant was still covering the tires!) Less than a month later, I now have 15000+ miles on the bike, the last 1000 have been on the Avons. Still looking and FEELING outstanding! I don't think I will ever change my brand of tire again, and I will NEVER go back to the Metzler OE tires!

I have an Avon Venom AM42 180/70R16 on the rear of my VTX1800C. I need a replacement for the Dunlop D251F 130/70R18 on the front. (These were on it when I got the bike.)I can't find a Venom (Radial) for the front. Should I use an Avon Cobra AV71 130/70R18?

Do Avon Cobra tires replace the Avon Venom line for Valkyries?

If so, can I expect similar longevity with the Cobras? Do you know what the changes are?

          • CUSTOMER CARE

            A:

Thanks for your question! With the Avon Cobra tires your looking at these would be the replacement version, these would get the same life span when it comes to the wear on the tire, the only difference would be slightly in the tread pattern.
