Product Details

The Icon Variant Construct Helmet is a street helmet but with dual sport riding in mind. Unlike dirt helmets the Icon Variant will block wind with its fully sealed face shield and chin curtain, but don’t worry about your head cooking in the Icon Variant Helmet, it has several oversized intake and exhaust ports for optimal air flow. Don’t be fooled by the dirt appearance, you get a rear spoiler just like the full street helmets for reduced buffeting at high speeds. This is an excellent choice for a commuting dual sport rider or a cross country adventure rider. Stripped of graphics and devoid of undue flair - the Icon Variant Construct Helmet wanders the earth in opaque minimalism. It is purity of form amongst the flamenco masses. It is truth of materials amid the technicolor hordes. In a world where no two helmets are created equal, the Variant Construct and its raw shell stand alone.

Good overall helmet, but a bit disappointed with the outer finish
Overall I like the Icon Variant helmet. It fits great and has great visibility. It's got more wind noise than my other helmets, but that's also to be expected with the visor.

Helmet looks good for the most part, but my only complaint and the only thing keeping it from a 5 star review is the actual finish on the outer shell. The smaller complaint I have is all the pictures online make it look whiter than it does in person. The epoxy used on the fiberglass make it more yellow and it's especially apparent along the ridges of the helmet where the epoxy is thicker. My bigger complaint is the pictures online don't clearly show the fiberglass layers very well. In person the rectangular edges of the multiple fiberglass sheets pop much more than it does in the pictures, especially on the back of the helmet. The details are in the picture, but it's much more pronounced when looking at it in person. I would normally like the raw fiberglass finish, but the way the sheets are cut and layered makes it look more haphazardly slapped together than it would if the fiberglass were cut and layered with better precision. If this were a $200 helmet I'd have no complaints, but I was expecting better workmanship for a helmet that costs almost twice that.

My first Icon Helmet
This is my first Icon motorcycle helmet and I have to say... Wow, I'm impressed. A friend suggested I try one after having for a few months. I had an Arai XD4 and thought it was a great motorcycle helmet. The problem I had with the Arai helmet was the visor. At speed on my KTM 990 the visor would vibrate and make a horrible buzzing noise. It was so bad that it would give me a headache even with earplugs in. This Icon Variant helmet is very comfortable, the shield provides excellent visibility, it is quiet and doesn't vibrate at all and it looks great. I've been a loyal Arai helmets for 10 years, maybe change is good...

Better than Arai
I have warn Arai helmets for years I have had every XD series made and for me this helmet just works. This is the first time I have fit in a medium so order your helmet off icon size chart. All my helmets before have been larges in this I ware a medium with large cheek pads and its just right. The peek does not lift your head, and it's the quietest crossover helmet I have tried. The Arai behind my KTM 990 windscreen was a no go. My first trip to Baja on this bike I had to take the peek off my XD it was so loud. I have a medium oval head. Love this helmet.
