How does this RF-1100 compare to the X-1100 or XSP1100 to be
used for Vintage RoadRacing?Seems like I read somewhere on your
webpage that they can come with different thickness of cheek-pads,
etc...but I can't find it now. Replacing X1100 size S (6 7/8 to 7)

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your Question! Being that we no longer carry the X-1100 or the XSP-1100 we would not be able to compare the helmets.
shoei RF1100 - air ports and chin skirt?

How many airports for incoming air and how many exit ports to exhaust air?

Is there a chin skirt like the Breakthrough helmet?

Can I get a dark visor for this model?

BEST ANSWER: Thanks for your question! The RF-1100's new shell features three (3) intake and six (6) exhaust vents in total. Wind tunnel testing revealed that the optimal location for exhaust vents is actually much higher on the rear portion of the helmet's shell than originally thought. Better ventilation and aerodynamic performance is achieved by separating the spoiler and exhaust vents. The exhaust vent holes have been relocated to take better advantage of negative pressure suction, dramatically improving exhaust ventilation. SHOEI's variable ventilation system allows riders to select the perfect balance between airflow and silence.

I don't know how to word this, but while the helmet is quiet it only seems to cancel the noises I want to hear, i.e. I can't hear my bike, all I can hear is wind noise (I wear ear plugs but I've ridden without just to test this).

The chin strap is placed better than the RF-1000 but the retaining snap is poop compared to what Shoei's been using since the -800 or earlier.

The visor is cheap, thin, and the attachment is horrid compared to the older system. They moved the visor hole up in the shell so now I can't block the sun with the helmet. It fogs less than the -1000, though, but I'd rather the older visor.

Having said all that, it's a good enough lid that my RF-1000s are dusty and unused. I ride every day so I have two -1100s to rotate through. Mostly this is because I have more faith in the Snell 10 testing.

Great fit. Very comfortable.
I bought my RF-1100 two years ago mainly based on Shoei's reputation for safety and the fit of the helmet. I also liked the simple but intelligent design of the ventilation system. Fortunately, I haven't had to test the safety aspect, but the fit is terrific and it's super comfortable. I've ridden in the middle of summer and the helmet (despite being black) stays nice and cool -- especially when I'm moving. The ventilation system works great. In cooler air (like autumn), closing up the vents and installing the chin and breathing diverters keeps the helmet cozy. I do notice, however, that it wants to fog up a bit in cooler weather, mainly when I'm sitting still, even with the front vent open. Often, I deal with this simply by keeping the faceshield open to the first notch during stop-and-go traffic. (I think this would be even easier using the quick-adjust faceshield lever, but, honestly, I haven't taken the time to figure out how to use it yet.)
One more note about fogging: with the front air intake vent open in cooler weather, the helmet can get pretty cool ... so I typically close it; fortunately, there's just enough air that still manages to get into the helmet to keep things from fogging up while moving, without letting it get too cool.
Because the ventilation systems works so well, I haven't sweated much inside the helmet, so the pads/liner are still nice and clean. So I haven't had to wash them and can't speak to how easily that would be.
One minor annoyance with the pads, though: I wear glasses and the pads do tend to put inward pressure on the glass by my temples, which, depending on the style of glasses can range from being minor to quite noticable (and annoying). That's basically the sole reason I didn't give the helmet 5 stars. Frankly, I'd really give it 4.75 if I could.

Don't be dope, buy good helmet
I bought this to replace the Shoie X-11 that recently saved my noggin in an accident, I can't say enough about the protection these helmets provide. My head hit the pavement hard and I had no head injuries, the bike busted up pretty bad, other parts of my body busted up pretty bad... Everyone at the scene was amazed that I was even conscious. Wrap your brain in one of these quality helmets and live to ride again.

Aside from all that I've found Shoie's to be comfortable, very well vented and relatively quiet. The shield adjustment variations are great.
