Why did you choose this?
Bike Bandit Store
I needed a dirt capable street tire, 80/20 kind of thing. I like the dirt but live freeway distances away from it. Hoping this does the trick.

I've read good reviews and want to give them a try.

Because it's Metzeler, and I'm hoping for great on road (wet, and dry) and off road tire, good mileage, and icing on the cake: best price,
Thank you.

wondering about the noise on this tire? original make of the karoo 3 is very noisy.
Bob S on Sep 26, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question Bob! The Metzeler Karoo Street Tire will create a low hum at around 60 mph, but this isn't too disruptive and you'll most likely not be able to hear the hum because of the sound of your engine. The noise level is reduced thanks to Metzeler's asymmetrical tread design that helps cancel noise. Karoo Streets - Excellent dual sport tire
First of all, the grip of these tires is excellent. They glue you to the road, corner very well, confidence inspiring. I had 2 straight days of hard rain and was very impressed with the wet grip in the twisties. I was cornering hard at 60-70 mph in the rain.

I have a set of the Karoo Streets on my ’16 BMW GSA. I run 36 psi front and 42 psi rear. I have just returned from a road trip from Southern Utah to the Canadian Rockies and back. I now have 5000 miles on these tires. The rear is shot and the front is looking fine. I was worried at 3000 miles that the rear wasn’t holding up well and almost stopped in Boise on my way home to replace. The majority of the miles on these tires was cruise control at freeway speeds and then plenty of twisties around the lakes in southern British Columbia. I have about 200 miles of off road use on them.

The front tire got loud after 1000miles. At 70-80 mph on the freeway it sings to you. I could hear it thru my headphones and music. It sounds like running a wet finger around the top of a wine glass.

I have taken them off road on trails in southern Utah when I first had them installed. Mainly hard pack, shallow sand and gravel roads. No mud. I was impressed with the grip and they inspired more confidence than the stock Anakee 3’s. I kept pressure at 36F 42R.

Would I recommend these tires? Yes... I was looking for a street themed 60/40 V rated tire that also performed well off road. I read many reviews and was waiting for the Karoo Street to launch. I wish the rear wore better, but know my bike is heavy and hard on tires. The first 2000 miles on the rear tire wore down fast and I wouldn’t off road it if I had more than 3k. I wish the front tire wasn’t noisy, strange that it started at 1000 miles in and hasn’t let up.

All in all, this is a great 60/40 tire that feels like a street tire in the twisties and the wet and has good dirt grip too. The rear wears quick and is shot at 5000miles of mostly highway cruise control.

UPDATE: The noise from the front tire went away at 5000miles. Front is wearing very well, likely a 10k mile front.
I'm on my second rear tire, and at 3000miles in its wearing quick and I doubt I'll make it to 5k. The first rear was mostly freeway cruise control, this second one has seen much more spirited riding. Love the tires, just wish the rears held up better.
